New is the Clue

At the very moment when people underestimate you, is when you can make a breakthrough

Germany Kent

Life is filled with different things to try. The true reason to why one must be persuaded to try a new thing, is to open up the mindset, and to create an acceptance for one’s reluctance. Every morning is a new one, every night is a different one, every friend is a new one, every taste is a different one, every new hi-fi gadget is a different one, and every challenge is a new one – just face it, and move on without caring the slightest.

Absolutely nothing in this universe is preordained. There’s no big schedule, no mass plan. Nothing is systematic, it’s just happening – and its our duty to go with flow. Hence, nobody has the right to stick to something forever.

Did you know? Amazon, the world’s biggest e-commerce platform, started out by only selling books. Today, there’s not a single product that you can’t find there. Google marked its presence as a mere search engine. In the present time, right from Gmail to Podcasts to YouTube, Google has caused an impact on every such business. Moreover, Kevin Plank the founder of Under Armor, was initially a football player. Could anyone dream of this young man to go on and set up one of the world’s most popular athletic goods business? Who doesn’t know Instagram? You won’t probably feel your day complete without putting up a story, or double tapping your friends’ pictures. Instagram wasn’t originally meant for this. It was a check-in app, much like Foursquare. It was then that it incorporated mobile photography, due to the increasing demand at that time. Nobody knew whether these projects would ever become so popular or would even exist after a decade. However, these ventures have shown us how important it is to travel an extra mile, showcase our capabilities, diversify our thoughts and opinions and endeavor new undertakings.

There’s always a good or a bad side, a good or a bad memory, a good or a bad relationship, a good or a bad time, a good or a bad instant thought, a good or a bad perspective, and an optimistic or a pessimistic angle of looking at these. Anything can be good or bad depending on how you observe it, and that’s why trying new things provides the required space to imagine, innovate and re-create.

Don’t be afraid to think differently, because you are different to think…

Me 😉
says Neal Welsch

In the previous blog, I had mentioned about how trying new things could lead us to achieve inner comfort. You shouldn’t be frightened of failure. Rather than spending your precious time thinking whether you will accomplish something or not, give your time and energy into doing what you’re doing. What you do today, will get you a result tomorrow, but what you think today, would just get you more desires. After doing your part diligently, leave it all up to fate. Even if you do not succeed, you’ve now got an edge and you know what you’re doing wrong. You know where to make the changes. Sometimes you may not get this in a single try – but this shouldn’t set you back. Think of those moments in life when you’ve got immense happiness out of what you’re doing.

I think that the one who looks at the most negative things to be happening apparently for the positive, is the one who has truly understood the meaning of life, and our existence as a speck of dust in the streaming evolution of this wonderfully, forever journey.

There are so many things out there – we’ve just gotta taste a lil’ bit of every one of them. You could try to learn a new subject, listen to a new type of music, watch a movie of a completely different genre, try reading a book (if you’ve never read one), make a personal diary, try some art and craft out of those old stuff in the storeroom, create a photo album revisiting those old memories, or even just randomly start writing something on a piece of paper, or anything that you never tried before. Surely, at least a couple of them, would really catch your attention. Honestly, I too tried cooking a few meals at home (although I couldn’t get as good as my mum).

After all who knows what’s on the other end? (unless you don’t explore it yourself). Life is a true blend of numerous aspects; we must just go out and explore them.

Another significant advantage of trying out new things is the personal satisfaction. At the end of the day, believe it or not, it becomes very important to analyze what was different today, and what is your contribution to make it different. True, not every instance maybe good, not every experience maybe good, not every discussion maybe good, not every feeling maybe good, and there are many other things, when tried new, that wouldn’t appeal to us. But as I pointed out before, we live in a never-ending stream of the positive and the negative, and every new thing tried is one new experience added.

So, make sure to try a new thing the next time you don’t feel like doing something you usually do. My prime objective of this blog is to encourage you, my dear reader, to explore and try out something that you’ve never thought of before and feel the tinge of satisfaction of trying something out of the way today, and to also go on and pass the message.

Comfort

Literally me

How many of us, at times, just like to sit down and not do anything? Just being seated, and constantly keep the eyes transfixed on something. And suddenly, realization dawns on you, you open your eyes wide and now physically observe what you’ve been staring at. Happens with all of us, I’d say.

The other day, I was sitting on the couch (like always) and constantly staring at the unusually grey sofa opposite me and then it struck me – COMFORT. Ever thought about it?
Just imagine how important this word has become in contemporary times.

I define it as when you realize that you are rightly satisfied. The word ‘comfort’ actually traces its roots to a Latin-cum-French origin. It’s truly fascinating to realize how this one word has become such an unavoidable aspect of our lives. In current times, it has also been interchangeably used with words like satisfaction and luxury. When at bed, comfort is coziness. At unfortunate households, it is the availability of essentials. At the fortunate ones, it is the expansion of business. Even the word ‘comfort’ has been adopted by many brands and businesses around the world due to its popularity and its evident common usage.

Big houses, cars, and a well-settled life is not all. Being mentally healthy and morally respectful can lead to you achieving inner comfort.

Another notion that comes up is “The Comfort Zone”. It is basically the moral space around which you feel comfortable. Very often we tend to say “This is out of my comfort zone” or similar things when we don’t prefer doing something. Even more frequently, we don’t like to try something new because it is new. In fact, about 70% of the world’s population refrains from giving an attempt, due to the fright of failure. Let’s open the word
“F A I L” as the “first attempt in learning”. You have a clear 50-50 chance of succeeding when you take the initiative and try, but you’ve got a clear 100% chance of not succeeding, when you give up trying.

Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, or any truly successful personality are all good cases in point. All of them have taken the initiative to expand their comfort zone. They have recognized that life isn’t a coercion, it’s a journey – A journey that you enjoy to the fullest and keep wrecking your mental barriers. And if they can, then why can’t you?
Hence, it is very important to extend your comfort zone and knock down your obstacles – The sky is the limit.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone

Neal Welsch

When you unfold your zone, you are then exposed to the world of opportunities that lie henceforth. Success and failure are just like the two sides of a coin, and destiny chooses the side. But this shouldn’t stop you from tossing the coin again and again, for at least once, you may get the right side and achieve your dreams and goals. Not sure how to expand your comfort zone? Try out something you’re generally uncomfortable with. You could try just anything that you’ve never thought of trying before, or thought would be challenging. After all, accepting challenges is the new cool.

“Let go of the life that you’re familiar with and take the risk to live the life you dream about”

However, while attempting to push your capabilities, you must always make sure that your comfort does not discomfort others, for then, it destroys your true purpose to be achieving this magnificent bliss. When you create happiness out of others’ pain, you fall into a pit of sins, from where escape is emotionally impossible.

Let me a tell you a story. Ben and Cathy – two different people achieving comfort in different ways. Ben has bought a new TV today, and he’s exhilarated about it. Cathy, given a choice, has chosen to go on a trip with her family. Ben has now laid back and is binge watching his favorite shows on his brand-new TV. Cathy, on the other hand, is amidst making lifelong moments with her family on their trip. See the difference? Both of them are experiencing the feeling of comfort, resulting in happiness, yet the type of comfort received is divergent.

Based on this, let me divide this word into two vast categories – the first one being artificial. I believe, this kind of comfort is generally gained through materialistic aspects and is relatively short-term. You’re feeling very comfortable on your brand-new sofa today, but what if it ruptures tomorrow? Gone are those “happy moments”, huh? Through artificiality, what’s there now may not last a moment longer, and that’s why it is very important to not take materialistic joy seriously. You may have them in your life but surrendering your precious happiness to these feigned senses would only bring sorrow.

This brings me to my next division – The substantial comfort.
Quite contrary to the former, this is lifelong. Your precious moments with family, friends, your skills, your intelligence – all remain with you wherever you go. At every moment of your existence, they inspire you to do more. They remind you of your humble qualities. They bring out the good old soul in you. They help you of out of every ditch, every obstacle that life presents. They help you cherish your achievements and perish your sins. They help you to be you.
The artificial segment may give you all the satisfaction you want in a moment, and take all of it back from you equally, in a jiffy. The substantial portion gives you inner peace and keeps you going throughout your life. Now it’s up to one – which one to just choose, and which to cherish.

Believe it or not, every profession too, has some sort of comfort linked to it. Students want the comfort of less homework, whereas teachers want the good performance of students, doctors want advanced medical equipment, while engineers want economical solutions to technical problems. Moreover, societies want the comfort of equal rights, when in fact every country wishes social and economic prosperity. Mother nature would love the sight of a green environment, whereas humanity dreams the comfort of artificial intelligence.

The discussion on comfort can also be brought out on a larger scale. Every country wants its citizens to be contended. Measures are taken with the view to provide all the necessities and to also ensure the safety of its citizens. This is because the citizens of the country are the key to its prosperity. The more comfortable everyone is, the more pleased they are, the more they contribute, and the more the country prospers. Hence, this is of top priority to governments and rulerships all over the world.

So, what is comfort for you, is it as important as a cue, or as mere as a screw? I’ve done my part in bringing to you, the face of this word. Now it’s your turn to find it a place in you.

Sustainable Living

Sustainability isn’t a milestone, it’s a practice

What do we mean when we talk about sustainability? Sure, there are innumerate definitions, but all of them are rooted to a common way of living – with the best attempt to refrain from damaging the environment, while conserving the Earth’s natural resources and preserving these resources for the upcoming generations. The requirements of sustainability are basic – use how much you need, conserve resources whenever possible, and attempt to replenish these resources while avoiding pollution.

The primary aim of sustainable development, as you would have guessed, is to maintain the relationship between nature and humanity, and avoid any imbalance, which would cause damage to both sides. It requires us to circumvent the present situation. Humans must consume not more than what they require, and not conserve less than what they use. Our present generation is just a streaming particle in the never-ending pinnacle of life. We must not think for ourselves alone. I remember a great saying, “We have not inherited the world from our forefathers, but we have borrowed it from our children.”

Sustainability begins with you. However, it doesn’t mean that you start your day by brushing your teeth with a bamboo toothbrush, or get to work on that rusty, old recycled paper, writing with a pen made of recycled plastic bottles, or buying more plants to make your home look green. Sustainability starts with thinking sustainably. As said, “Actions speak for words.” Start with miniature conservation efforts within your locality and begin to make a difference. First things first, you need to ensure that your basic needs are fulfilled. You would not be able to help others unless you don’t help yourself first. And by that, I mean, you must ensure that you have all the requirements to influence others, and you should be living sustainably, yourself.

In the contemporary world, where industrialization has helped us achieve success to the extent, it has come in conflict with the idea of sustainability. True, industrialization has had many positive effects on the human race, and will continue to; however, it does not go hand-in-hand with the notion of sustainable living. It has caused humans to indulge in deforestation, and other negative environmental externalities, like increased greenhouse gas emission and global warming. Along with known to exploit humans themselves, industrialization has had huge negative impacts on the globe. Derrick Jensen, a celebrated American author and radical environmentalist says that “industrial civilization is not, and can never be sustainable”.

The words ‘zero waste’ and ‘sustainability’ are often used interchangeably. Mostly, when people talk about sustainable living, they make an indirect reference to a philosophy that encourages the restructure of the life cycles of resources, and re-usage of products, whenever possible. True, these terms have a lot in common, although they are subtly different. In fact, zero waste is a component of sustainable development. It is a short-term goal, mostly referring to minimize waste disposal. On the other hand, sustainability is a long-term enterprise, where people not only aim to reduce refuse, but also aspire to reduce fuel consumption, preservation of biodiversity, and save resources for the generations ahead.

The three pillars of sustainability are social, environmental, and economic sustainability. “Social sustainability occurs when the formal and informal processes, systems, structures, and relationships actively support the capacity of current and future generations to create healthy and livable communities. Socially sustainable communities are equitable, diverse, connected and democratic and provide a good quality of life.” – WACOSS, Western Australia Council of Social Services. It is often associated with sustainability in business.
Economic sustainability refers to the art of management of economic growth, without negatively affecting the individual sectors of the economy.

The third, and perhaps most important pillar of sustainability, is environmental sustainability. It is a condition which allows people to use their environment to their convenience without reducing its efficiency. The major challenge that exists with reference to this concept is the war on plastic. Plastic is convenient, cheap, and versatile; but it is also non-biodegradable, i.e., it never disappears from our planet fully.

  • The most prominent way to reduce plastic consumption is to carry your own bag (preferably, made of cloth or jute) during shopping. The idea is to refrain from using plastic bags whenever possible. If the use of plastic is urgent, make sure you safely dispose it. Many types of plastic products can be disposed off in the bins allocated for the same.
  • Use glass jars to store products at home and prefer to buy sauces, grains, fruits, veggies, and other products stored in glass bottles or in other non-plastic containers. Also, avoid using foil and switch to reusable food packaging instead.
  • Composting is an excellent method to dispose organic waste. It is a process of take-and-give, where you are returning the nutrients back to the Earth, by letting it biodegrade in the soil. A backyard is the best place you can use for composting. Nonetheless, you can set up composting bins in cities and apartments as well.

Now, that I think I have mentioned enough about sustainability, I would love to express my views on various methods of sustainable living:

  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle: This is one of the most commonly heard practices for living sustainably. Right from the clothes on your body, to the mobile phone in your pocket and the furniture and appliances in your house, everything is made up of resources. Remember, it is always better to reduce and reuse whenever possible, because the process of recycling consumes an enormous amount of energy. It is recommended to use goods up to their usable extent and then send for them to be changed to other forms. One way of reducing production of consumer goods is to shop for second-hand products.
  • Eco-friendly homes: Have you ever wondered how air conditioners or room heaters work? Sure, they do give you comfort by increasing or decreasing the temperature in your room as you want them to, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. These appliances harm the environment considerably, although we don’t feel it inside our homes. Apart from this, they use lots of energy too, making them ‘energy gobblers’. This can be reduced by upgrading and sealing windows, using ceiling fans and a programmable thermostat. In the case of unavailability of these, you can insulate your home. This is known to work satisfactorily. As mentioned earlier, energy conservation is also an important aspect of sustainability. Hence, we must commit to renewable sources of energy like hydroelectricity, solar energy etc. Increasing number of companies are providing the same, hence obtaining energy from renewable sources is expected to become easier through the successive decades.
  • Save water: Water is the most essential element of our lives. Yet humanity is known to exploit nature’s priceless largesse. This is, indeed, one of the key points to sustainability. Unused water going down that drain may seem to be minimal at the first sight, to an individual; however, if everyone thinks the same, all of this wasted water could cause an enormous amount of damage to the Earth, and to the entire present generation as well. The rapid rate of the growth of population provides another reason to conserve water. Many don’t have access to clean water, whether it be for drinking or for other basic purposes. Hence, sustainable conservation of water resources would not only preserve it for the subsequent days, but also ensure an equivalent distribution today.
  • Use green transportation: It is an evident fact that personal vehicles consume a lot of the much-needed energy fuels from the Earth, and in turn, give out byproducts that harm our environment. Apart from making travel easy for the driver, such means of transportation are a complete lose-lose situation, in the perspective of the Earth. But guess what? There are various other green means of transport that can help you get there, without polluting the Earth. Just make sure to grab that cycle, whenever you go out. In fact, cycling is known to increase metabolism as well. When distances are large and such transports cannot be used, make sure to use public transportation. Relative to using personal transportation, public transportation causes less damage to the world, per person and is considered economical too.
  • I am, I will, and I can: One of the best ways to encourage sustainability is to get politically involved in the community and its goals. Encourage some form of sustainability in the society. A small difference can cause a big change. True, many may not prefer to do so. In that case, commit to vote for individuals or groups that promise a green lifestyle. By doing this, we are not only ensuring sustainability in our surroundings, but we are inspiring other communities of the world to do so as well.

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

Robert Swan

Sustainability is, and is going to be, the foremost idea in saving the world. We must hold hands and try to perform our bit. Just as several drops form an ocean, our helpful bits, and opinions, will surely, bring a turnover in the way the world is progressing right now, for the good.

Currency Through Generations

My debut in short story writing begins with this blog… Hope it catches your attention!

It was an old leather suitcase strapped and buckled safely. It lay above my grandmother’s Dutch armoire. I recalled asking granny about it. She simply said that it contained some old documents regarding plot and property. However, this statement of her’s never satisfied me. I tried multiple times to ask grandma to tell me what exactly was in the trunk. I knew she never told me the truth; because every time, she gave me a different reason, surely forgetting what she had told me the previous time.

One fine day, I discovered that mum and dad had gone out to shop for the groceries and grandmother had gone over to the neighbor’s house to have a little chat. I knew that this was my golden chance. I seized the opportunity and erected the ladder to climb the armoire. I tried lifting the suitcase, but realized it was awfully heavy. Finally, I did manage to bring it down with a thud. The suitcase was one of the old-fashioned ones, where there weren’t any zips, but numerous open-by-hand locks to open and see what lie inside the suitcase.

I opened one lock after another; I remember grandma teaching me to unlock one of these. What I saw henceforth got me awestruck. There were about six compartments, and in each compartment lie currency notes from historic ages. I picked up one of them, it read, ‘Union Bank of Britain’, ‘1 Pound’ and ‘1459’. I’m sure there were notes from even older times, but unfortunately, I had to stop.

“Now that you have truly found what’s inside,” said grandmother, “let me show you.” I quickly turned back to see her standing in front of me. She explained that this was a hobby that was carried through generations by our ancestors and that this trunk consisted of consisted of currency notes right from then. Adding on, she said that time had come for me to carry the collection on, along with my father.

I was so deeply touched and amazed with the discovery I made. I couldn’t believe it, my family had been collecting currency notes present here were very old, I also noticed that these were from different nations. I was utterly pleased and promised to continue with this family tradition.

Impacts of Social Media

“Social Media is addictive precisely because it gives us something which the real world lacks – it gives us immediacy, direction and a value as an individual.”

David Amerland
Oh gosh! What a craze!
As rapid as a blaze;
Not sure whether good or bad,
yet the effects are sad.
Truly, it seems to be one of the acedia,
yes, this is social media.
‘Social media’, as it is called,
is utilized by the young and the bald;
Can’t name any one of ‘em,
yet they work out better than a gem.
Just as risky as ophidia, (or even more)
yes, this is social media.
Let’s look into the advantages,
long before we ignore the mismanages;
It goes much beyond the news,
and believed to well schmooze;
Surely, they work much like hypermedia,
yes, this is social media.
 Now, for the demerits.
Right from addiction, everyone inherits,
seems to cross their jurisdiction;
 Careful, it may be as dangerous as ascardia,
yes, this is social media.
The addiction spreads like wildfire,
for everyone wants to acquire
the account that makes them well known;
Well, that’s negative because it leaves them all alone;
Won’t you find this in any encyclopedia,
yes, this is social media.
 It is never entirely bad,
for it brings the world to you;
It needs supervision like a clad,
otherwise it may give you the flu too;
It is a bottomless pit, a redia,
yes, this is social media.

“Don’t use social media to impress people, use it to impact people.”

The Use of Technology is Changing People for the Better

"Any sufficient advancement in technology is equal to magic."
- Sir Arthur C Clarke

As always, before getting on with the topic, let us first pay attention so as to what exactly does the word ‘technology’ mean. By dictionary, it is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially industry. When one tries to evolve a definition on one’s own, it may result in realizing that technology is often associated with change, either in terms of industry, progress, revolutions, artificial intelligence and the functioning of various machines.

Consider these:

  • Years and years ago, when there wasn’t any email, rather there wasn’t any computer itself, messages used to take a minimum of a fortnight to get delivered.
  • Clothes in those times were washed by exhausted washer men, or by the people of the house. Truly, as it seems, this was extremely tedious. Now, we are blessed with the invention of the washing machine.
  • Centuries ago, when countries weren’t linked, people were not aware and linked with each other. Now, there isn’t anyone who hasn’t heard of globalization.

Similarly, there are numerous examples which can be cited on a local, community, regional, national, international or a continental basis where technology plays an inseparable role. Technology has certainly improved the lives of human beings for the better.

An incident taken place at one part of the world alerts people in another corner in just no time. It is no doubt that technology has influenced our past, present and future. It has made us brave and strong enough to face unimaginable adversities. It has connected us, taken humanity to a unique stage where there is no looking back. It has not only reduced people’s work, but has also provided numerous employment opportunities in different sectors.

Right from farming, where farmers need modern machinery for increased productivity, technology has played a significant role in shaping the global society of today. It has given a sincere boost to our understanding of science to a new height. We can go on to develop technology and tech items with the use of current technology, and hence carry ourselves towards a dream-come-true picture. From sending money to serving food at restaurants, from education to skill training, can you name at least one field where not a bit of technology or any one of the improvements caused by it have not yielded better outcomes?

Technology has become a controversial topic today. Many say that it has harmful affects on various aspects of life. I do agree to this up to an extent. But give it a second thought – Would we really be able to understand how space and time work, without tech? Would we be able to connect with one another without tech? Would we be able to travel as quick as we do today, without tech? Would we be able to live life as luxuriously as today, without tech?

Further concluding, I would like to say that one (I mean absolutely) cannot try to imagine the world today without the advancement that we have acquired through centuries over generations. Technology is one of the major aspects where humanity uses brains to find out solutions to it’s growing problems.

Math Fun

“Pure Mathematics is in it’s way, the poetry of logical ideas.”

When one starts thinking about Mathematics, or Math for short, he/she is known to be introduced to a separate world on it’s own. Yes, this is the power and vastness of Math. Right from pre-elementary school, students face the ‘wrath of Math’, as some say, but what I see in the Math is just too beautiful. The world of Math yet contains many depths to be discovered, and what we know of it may just be a preview.

This blog is intended to give you a really short glance at what exactly does Math mean in our lives, its significance along with a few examples.

When we start talking, debating or arguing about a certain topic, one of the essential keys always remains so as to know what the topic means exactly in your terms, using the right words. The meaning of the word ‘Mathematics’ is itself a task on its own, just like what it contains. Asked anyone the meaning of this, we get to hear – “Yeah, its all about numbers, variables, angles, squares, roots and god knows what else.” Searched by the defined meaning, we get, “Math is the abstract quantity of science and space, either as abstract concepts (known as ‘Pure’ Mathematics), or as applied to other disciplines such as physics and engineering (known as ‘Applied’ Mathematics). The true meaning of Math, I believe, is yet to be discovered and framed into known and meaningful words.

Math is used very commonly in our daily lives. The first and the most commonly heard branch is Algebra, which is commonly associated with variables, etc. It is this branch of Math which deals with the finding of literals and substituting values. The common variable ‘x’, which has known to destroy the lives of many students when they can’t find it in a given problem, is the most commonly enjoyed concept by professionals and experts in this branch.

Next, we have geometry, which is another specialty of Math. The common 2D figures such as squares, triangles and circles appear easy at first sight, but one must try to find out what lies before the discovery of these figures and their increasing complexity with dimensions.

Consider this: If you take a pencil and draw a line on a sheet of paper, this is actually a 1D (ie, 1 Dimensional) figure. Now draw two more equal lines from the two end points of the 1D line, and join the extended ones. This becomes a square, which is a 2D figure. Draw and other square just beside it, overlapping the first and join the four corners. This becomes a cube, which is 3D in nature. Similarly, it is estimated that one can draw unto infinite such dimensions.

For figures such as squares, we know that all the sides are equal and the area of such a figure is given as the square of the side. As for triangles, they are the next step in the 2D (polygon) figure pyramid and have three sides, which maybe equal or unequal. We also have a useful formula to calculate the area of an equilateral triangle (a triangle with equal sides) given as a quarter of the product of the square root of 3 and the square of the side, ie 1/4(root.3*side sq.). Another famous formula meant for right angled triangles, discovered by Sir Pythagoras between 1900-1600 BC, states that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the sides of a right angled triangle. Then we have a special figure – the circle. A circle does not have a single straight line, like the figures mentioned above, and hence does not fall under the category of polygons. Considering the topic of circles, one can never ignore the famous constant ‘Pi’, invented by William Jones. It is equal to 22/7 fractionally, or 3.141 decimally. The Pi, however is just an estimated fraction, considering multiple cases. The actual value exceeds up to 3.7 trillion digits.

Math is used in our daily lives for various applications like calculating money, totalling expenses, finding aggregates etc.

These are just a few topics, elementary ones, you could say. Emphasizing on what I have said before, you could go on endlessly explaining each branch of Math, from Trigonometry to Calculus. Each branch of Math is to be thought as a separate paradise on it’s own, rather than just a sub-unit.

Well, as for now, that’s all I’ve got for an intro into this magnificent topic. I would also love to suggest that before expressing negative views on subjects like Math (most commonly), please do try to find out what lies beyond what we just call Math.

Mood and Manner

Loads of people suffer from mood swings and related problems. This poem is specifically dedicated to all those who are victims of the problems mentioned above and enquire the potential to overcome the same.

They are so unpredictable,
You just cannot say;
Not forgetting to mention irresistible,
Difficult to play away;
There's no use of any banner,
Control your mood, control your manner.
You never know when they turn good,
Long before you understood;
They may turn around,
And left you mercilessly drowned;
Remember, you can't use any spanner,
Control your mood, control your manner.
It is difficult for everyone,
Hasn't be escaped by anyone;
Anytime, you can expect a swing,
Jumping back and forth like a spring;
It doesn't spare a manor,
Control your mood, control your manner.
When going through bad times,
Don't find excuses to commit little crimes;
Instead, try to get red of it,
To save yourself from falling into the pit;
You can't make yourself tight like a canner,
Control your mood, control your manner.
If you see a victim,
Let him be himself;
You must hereby dictum,
That you will let one discover oneself;
Won't you find this in any planner,
Control your mood, control your manner.
Changing moods are absolutely natural,
All must work in collateral;
To ensure least damage,
And reducing instances to savage;
As for the issue, there isn't any scanner,
Control your mood, control your manner.
As a matter of conclusion,
No one should face exclusion;
We, the humanitarian society,
Must ensure utmost propriety;
Follow your emotions like a fanner, (But don't forget to)
Control your mood, control your manner.

Substance Abuse

Have you ever heard of 'Substance Abuse' ?
Yeah, that weird-sounding word;
Surely gives you the blues,
Consuming it is completely absurd.
Governments have taken many measures,
and established them as illegal;
Yet it remains among people’s pleasures,
Them being under problems regal.
 People often wonder why it is dangerous
The truth is it is canorous;
The consumer may feel adventurous,
But it is highly precancerous.
You use substances in the wrong way,
No doubt, once you must pay;
For your body is utterly harm’d,
You really wish you were warm’d
These substances are of many types,
Nevertheless, all of them have spikes;
Tobacco, alcohol or drugs,
Will give you your worst shrugs.
Tobacco now is not rear,
It has become hard to bear;
For the urge does not spare,
It truly seems unfair.
 Tobacco contains nicotine,
that makes you create quite a scene;
For it gives a rush of pleasure and energy,
Converts you into someone you’d never want to be.
 Alcohol is a common addiction,
you are transported to a world of fiction;
It can become very problematic,
You may start suffering from hematic.
 Beer, liquor, wine and whisky
are all forms of alcohol,
‘Course all of ‘em are risky,
And will destroy you in the long haul.
 What’s with drugs I don’t understand,
The consumer is under its command;
For it gives you energy in a sudden rush,
Your blood seems to suddenly gush.
 You may want to consume more and more,
for you, it may never bore;
But when it completely wears off,
You’re on a building that may falloff.
 The obviousness of the conclusion is known,
For everything is completely shown;
Once you want to consume,
You’re gonna end up in the fume.

Equality

“Equality isn’t only supposed to be followed in terms of polity”

Equality, literally means the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, or opportunities. According to the Mathematics point of view, Equality is a symbolic expression of the fact that two quantities are equal, basically an equation. It seems there is a lot of diversity and difference in the definition too!

What role do all the inhabitants of this Earth have to play in equality? What do all of you think? Isn’t there any equality over here? Of course there is, equality plays a good and sufficient role almost every day in our daily lives, then why not between all the organisms of this Earth?

Imagine a world without any other species except us. What springs to your mind? As per me, I can only see through a world devastated, destroyed, spoiled, barren and not at all fit to live in.

“It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal”, once quoted. Animals, birds and all other species too deserve to play an equal role along with us on this Earth.

“Subordination tends greatly to human happiness. Were we all upon an equality, we should have no other enjoyment than mere animal pleasure”, says Samuel Johnson.

Do you know friends, there are only about 3000 tigers in the world today. “Every single day another tiger is killed in the wild”. It is all upon us, our responsibility, our thoughts and our duty to save these animals, now talking about tigers. A very recent news: KANPUR : With the state government developing a habitat for Asiatic lions at the Lion Safari area in Fisher forest in Etawah district, the Society for Conservation of Nature has jumped in to spread awareness on tiger conservation among school children in remote villages. The campaign was launched on the occasion of ‘World Tiger Day’.

The dodo is another famous species which has already been extinct. The first documented appearance of the dodo bird is in the early 15th century by Dutch explorers. Because the dodo bird’s natural environment lacked any significant predators, dodos were fearless of people. This, combined with their inability to fly, made them an easy prey. With combination of human hunting and becoming prey for animals brought onto the island by the explorers (i.e. dogs, cats, pigs, and rats) dodo birds became extinct in late 17th century.

Upon the initial extinction, very few took notice of the bird. In the early 19th century, scientific interest in the dodo bird was rekindled after some evidence of the bird was found in the swamp on its native island. Also, the use of dodo bird as a character in the Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland sparked interest in the dodo bird with the general public. Since then, multiple films, cartoons and other media have used dodo birds as an example of an extinct species.

Another extinct species is the Pyrenean Ibex. While the exact cause of the Pyrenean ibex’s extinction is unknown, scientists hypothesize that a number of different factors contributed to the decline of the species, including poaching, disease, and the inability to compete with other domestic and wild ungulates for food and habitat.

The ibex are thought to have numbered some 50,000 historically, but by the early 1900s, their numbers had fallen to fewer than 100. The last naturally born Pyrenean ibex, a 13-year-old female that scientists named Celia, was found mortally wounded in northern Spain on January 6, 2000, having been trapped beneath a fallen tree.

Based on this, we can actually say that equality does cease to exist between all organisms on Earth. We humans are using up all the resources, and moreover, are threatening the lives of other species too. “Earth was created for all of us, not some of us”, rightly said.

There are still so many endangered species out there which are literally pleading for equality, and surely if that one day comes where not even a single species exist due to inequality created by humans, we will all regret but then it is surely going to be late. Continuing, let’s look into a quote, “At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice, he is the worst”

This topic is widely being debated too nowadays… In fact, 53% of the people of the world support the topic whereas 47% do not.

I personally agree with the statement and would have no hesitation in saying that, “Animals are living creatures too. Why humans feel they are better is beyond me. Mankind would be nowhere if other
types of animals did not exist. It is just as bad killing an animal than it is to kill human, it is simply murder. I believe humans are equal, if not lower, than other animals”.

But then of course, there is an opposition, saying that, “Even if you believe that animals have the same worth as humans, you can’t possibly believe that they’re equal. The ability of a human to breathe underwater is not equal to that of a fish. A cat’s ability to drive a car is not equal to that of human. You could make an almost unending list of the ways in which humans and animals are unequal”.

Again I can still say that, “Perhaps where worse animals would only kill for the sake of their lives or their young we kill each over for pieces of paper. We are destroying the world animals stay in line with nature. All we can do is try and make the change in ourselves maybe then the world can change too”

And then, once I got a reply from the debater, stating that, “Are you an animal? We can sit here all day and argue all humans are animals blah blah blah. But we are the most sophisticated of all animals, we can speak different languages, cook food, drive cars, go to college, and even debate over other animals not being equal to us. And that is why animals and humans are not equal. The intelligence level of a human is far greater and that’s what separates humans from other species. If animals were equal a dog and cat would reply to this and defend themselves, that’s just not possible. And for those that want to say “you can teach animals things” well yes you can but regardless they will never be able to perform at the same mental capacities as you and I. Like I said, humans are just more sophisticated”.

A quote just springs to my mind, “The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man.”, rightly said by Charles Darwin. Concluding, I’d like to ensure that whomsoever has gone through this small blog of mine, has surely understood what I have tried to convey and what have I tried to increase awareness on.

Friends, the matter of equality doesn’t only come to play in parliaments (for justice) and poverty (for victims), there is much more to it, there is much more to explore, much more to gain, much more to get aware of, much more ensure, much more to get ensured of, much more to grasp, much more to observe, much more to listen, much more to life and, much more to equality. I’d like to conclude with a quote of mine, “The people of the Earth are growing day by day, not in maturity, but in greed.”
