Climate Change and Inequality

“Nearly 163 million people in India, or one out of ten, lack access to clean water close to their homes,” according to a report published in 2018.

“Climate change is no longer a far off problem; it’s happening here, it’s happening now” says Barack Obama.

Many countries are blessed with a lot of sunshine, an example being the United Arab Emirates. But why the inequality? Even though countries like these have a lot of sunshine, they are forced to import goods from the outside, a major problem is the fact that all activities (like farming, agriculture, animal rearing etc.) do not require only sunshine. The requirement of other factors is vital for these processes to be carried out.

Now, climate change is entirely in our hands. A famous quote comes by, “The Earth doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the Earth.” It is a very simple cycle – we pollute, we endanger, we destroy and all of it adds up and seems to stab us at one point of life.

Climate affects various factors, one being the growth of crops. Most of the destruction related to crops occur due to climate change. As per me, this is the first and most important measure of inequality. Now, growth of crops does not meet the required amount. This leads to lesser production in farms. As a result, there is lesser sale in the markets and hence more competition to buy them. More competition means prices rise higher.

Now, the second measure of inequality comes into the picture. The rich can pay off and afford their debts, taxes and high price respectively imposed on them, but the poor are not getting any better. Instead, their economical status is just decelerating more and more.

Less production also leads to the loss of jobs which leads to ultimate desperation for job opportunities. So, as you can see, it is all around a cycle, which ultimately comes back to us depending on the way we treat our current situation.

I would like to conclude mentioning one tip: We must try to narrow down these forms of inequalities somehow. It can include the use of renewable energy, use of less pollutant vehicles etc. There’s a beautiful quote that has to be shared, “We must all began to share, not the burden, but the responsibility.”

Tribute to the UAE

This is a poem dedicated to the UAE, to which I don’t belong but the country that has given me everything.

All these years I spent in the Emirates,
were filled with joy, humility and responsibility;
And yes, there were a number of fates,
Which seemed to provoke my capability.

The National day we celebrate every year,
the 2nd of December to which we adhere;
Is honored by people all around the sphere,
And filled with honesty and commitment, crystal clear.

The 3rd of November is a very special day,
the heart of the nation rises with the hosted flag;
For the future welfare of the country the people pray,
Once and for all, the grievances are thrown away.

Not forgetting the Martyr’s Day,
celebrated on the 30th of November;
When thousands of soldiers did ember,
But did not walk away.

Next is the most awaited festival,
Ramadan, as it is called, is the symbol;
When people experience happiness in-forgettable,
And get together in a way exceptional,
Even the worst of the worst turn emotional.
Our great rulers so far,
have sacrificed everything for the country;
Gone beyond the light of the evening star,
Although they started from a stage very elementary.
All of us hope by 2050,
We shall get to see a country,
With no men left hungry,
No child seen grumpily;
And one of the most visited countries monthly,
Simply, the United Arab Emirates.
47 Years of reunion have been completed. In 2019, the UAE will be celebrating it’s 48th National Day.

Role of Students in the Fight Against Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs

Imagine a world destroyed by smoking, drinking and consumption of drugs. How disgusting or pitiful does it sound? The same thought applies when we see it happening right in front of our eyes. An astonishing fact is that the role of students in these issues is crucial than those of others. The students can take initiatives to stop these killing factors of the society.

Smoking at teenage is inexplicably dangerous

Now, tobacco is not just any cigarette or cigar or any harmful apparatus. It is an invitation to death, sometimes that traps you in and never lets out anything else other than the departed soul. “Smoking leaves an unseen scar, it fills your insides with toxins and tar.” The question is, how can students play a role in the fight against tobacco when they themselves are facing this stage for the first time? Apparently, the younger generation have fresher minds, newer ideas and sometimes even mature minds. Students are capable to stop the society from getting into incorrect habits and influence, a major one being tobacco. Students have various methods to spread public awareness, some of them being speeches, expressions, articles and newspapers. These methods may or may not apply to other people of the society as they may not have the knowledge, time and desire to do so. It is of utmost importance to realize the harmful effects of tobacco. “Every cigarette you smoke reduces your expected life span by 11 minutes”, rightly said. People may think it is an enjoyable, un-harmful, pleasing and most importantly ‘satisfying’ practice. But surely it is not so. Tobacco causes lots of health risks. There are a number of diseases too. The Cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, cancer and affecting of bone health are all the effects of tobacco. Clearly, smoking causes nothing but harm to the society and it is the sole role and responsibility of students to prevent this misunderstanding between everyone. What is present in a cigarette? Experts say that cigarette contains over 4000 different compounds. A significant number of them are toxic (poisonous) and can damage our cells and many of them are carcinogenic (cause cancer). It is commonly due to circulatory and cardiovascular problems that smoking kills, but not because of the commonly answered, lung disease.

Alcohol is a very common temptation. Many people are addicted towards alcohol and its effects on their minds, students can increase awareness on the negative side or harmful effects of alcohol buy promoting social campaigns, speeches and advice through various means like social media, various websites etc. Now, let’s explore a story related to the topic.

Underage Drinking statistics are increasing uncontrollably

Once, a student was walking through a crowdy street when she saw a bad group of friends who looked like drunkards. She avoided them and turned to move forward when a drunkard from the group stopped her with his unsteady actions. The girl hesitated to stay longer and continued to move along in another way. But the drunkard did not stop, he went on unsteadily along with the girl, trying to stop her. He abused her, even though he was not aware of this words and slurred speech. The girl was unaware of what to do. Without thinking about anything else, she took his bottle and smashed it to the ground and slapped him hard so as he came back to his senses and ran away.

The main purpose of this story is to emphasize the effects of alcohol on humans. They are inappropriate and incorrect. The link between alcohol and cancer is well established, says the Cancer Research, UK. A study published in BMJ that year estimated that alcohol consumption causes at least 13000 cancer cases in the UK each year, about 9000 cases in men and 4000 in women. The major effect of alcohol is that it increases risks of cancer. The others are: It shuts down parts of our brain. It reduces new brain cell production by 40%. Some diseases caused due to it are cirrhosis, Fetal Alcoholic Spectrum Disorder (FAS), malnutrition, ulcers and hepatitis. It can also result in brain damage. “Drinking doesn’t make you fat, it makes you lean; against bars, tables, chairs and poles”.

“When you actually study the beginnings of federal war on drugs, you uncover a history of lies, bigotry and ignorance so extensive, it will leave you speechless”, rightly said by Ron Paul. The history of drugs, dates back to olden times when the term ‘drugs’ was used for pharmaceutical purposes and medicines. But in modern times, the word ‘drugs’ has been used for the powdery substance to which more than 15% of the people in the world are addicted to. Students can surely make a big difference supervising the mental condition of the victims, and according to that passing suggestions, if any. Students can again spread awareness and take steps to educate community members of drug addiction in the following ways: galas, contests, festivals, rallies, walks, runs, sports competitions, conferences and cookouts. “Instead of reaction to what might happen, we must see statewide in the hopes that we will help some lives”. These activities bring people together in an effort to prevent non-medical uses of drugs. The following are the health problems occurring due to the consumption of drugs: The weakening of immune systems, increasing susceptibility to infections. They also cause cardiovascular conditions, along with nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, liver failures, seizures, stroke and widespread brain damage too.

Students must set an example for all others who indulge in these activities. They can promote various campaigns etc. To spread awareness on these issues. They must impress upon the victims of the harmful effects of these habits. Together all the students can help in promotion of awareness regarding these temptations and can together make a difference. After all, everything revolves upon those two popular sayings, “A half smoked cigarette is still smoked, and a half-broken heart is still broken”, and; “Smoking is harmful, Drinking is disgusting, and to Die early is a pity”.

The use of plastic money encourages more spending than saving

Have you ever imagined your lives without credit or debit cards? Have you ever envisaged a world without online shopping? A very good day to all – The topic of this motion is ‘The use of plastic money encouraging spending more than saving’ and I am writing against this motion.

So, doesn’t the world just seem too miserable without plastic money? Governments printing cash crazily, economies not progressing, people using physical money (liquid cash) everywhere – from buying tea at tea stalls to international transactions. It isn’t less than a nightmare!

Plastic money has played a significant role in changing the way what money meant to us. It has not only encouraged saving money and reduced procrastination, but has also taught the younger generation the true value of money and qualities of saving and spending wisely.

Well, 67% of the world today use plastic money. “Don’t save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving”, says Warren Buffet.

Often, a repeated complication people face is that the time of receiving income and the time when expenditure is incurred doesn’t coincide. In order to bridge the gap between these, we have introduced the system of plastic money. In other words, we have introduced the system of ‘buy now, pay later’.

The Plastic money system is an excellent method of short term financing in favor of individuals. It provides short-term credit to the credit card holder at zero additional cost (usually up to 2 months). In simple words, it provides you with time to finance your own expenses. On the contrary, if a person does not opt to use credit cards, he won’t be able to finance any large expense that he incurs and may have to take loans from the bank with interest; as a result, he ends up paying more.

Today’s world without online purchases seems beyond the bounds of possibility. In 2019, the amount of digital buyers amounts to a massive 1.92 billion and is expected to rise to 2.14 billion in the year 2021. In fact, an online purchase of an item costs much lesser than what it would cost in the showroom. Also, online purchases usually accept credit cards (not all online shopping outlets actually offer COD). Hence, digital buyers save loads of money in this way.

The use of plastic money also counts as a matter of safety and security. Instead of carrying huge amounts of cash in your wallet, how convinient is it to carry your entire bank account within your pocket! This can directly help in saving money, as it helps reduce the chances of thefts. Even if one’s wallet is robbed or stolen, the card can easily be tracked with just a single call.

Plastic money helps in financial budgeting. The bank releases a statement every month mentioning your expenditures throughout the cycle. Accordingly, one knows where to spend wisely and where to save. This is much easier than keeping an actual written account.

The system of installments can easily be utilized with the help of plastic money. The fact that one can distribute a large expenditure over time is a fabulous feature that helps in saving money. Instead of spending all your money in one go, you can handle your regular finance on one hand as well as your new purchase on the other, through installments.

Research shows that people tend to make small purchases with low amount of cash in circulation. This works especially in favor of those who tend to spend cash indiscriminately.

These are how individuals save cash. But when we talk of saving money, we also talk about the economy as a whole.

I’d say, we would rather save money by not producing money! When the government produce more and more money, more trees are being felled. This has an adverse affect on the environment resulting in people falling victims to dangerous diseases. As a result, the government spends an extra amount of money in healthcare. The US Government, for example, saves money in this way. It also saves taxpayer’s cash by not printing too much paper money and minting coins. As a result, the United States has the no. 1 economy in the world today.

Many countries in today’s world are looking to go cashless. Many merchants provide cash back on every purchase using plastic money. As a result, the common man saves huge amount of money. When using plastic money, a person can log onto his/her account and can immediately view the expenses and keep a track of the same.

In my opinion, every person, whether using credit card or cash, is supposed to spend and save each and every penny of his wisely. Even though credit cards may offer such a huge limit, one must be aware of just how much one wants and not spend more than his capacity. If people do so, I believe, humanity can go on to explore unbelievable depths of a cashless society.

The demand for a cashless society arises only because of that one beautiful reason – It’s benefits far outrun the disadvantages. Lastly, as Benjamin Franklin always said, ‘Beware of little expenses, a small leak may sink a great ship.”

Bullying

This poem is dedicated to all those who are either victims of bullying or are totally against it. It’s my first ever blog, hope you like it.

A bully is a person who burns in fury,
and acts toooooo unruly;
He may be a pro or a rookie, (who cares)
But will be caught once surely.

Bullying seems like fashion,
and has become their passion;
But immediately there will be taken action,
Certainly it isn’t a moment of attraction.

Bullies are so violent and mean;
they bully purely by routine,
But once they are seen,
They have no choice but to come clean.

Bullying is of many types,
nevertheless, all of them are dangerous sights,
It can reach up to unexpected heights,
And result in menacing fights.

It is your responsibility to stop it,
and draw a limit;
For if you quit,
You will also fall in the pit.

Bullies must be taught a lesson,
for there will be many in succession;
They are no longer just a person,
But a human dwelling in aggression.

Report it to whomsoever you can,
to friends, teachers and everyone;
Before he began
To harass even one.

Together we can stop this,
and bring about a magnificent bliss;
We being a part of humanity,
Must stop this insanity.
